Ballpark Breakdown

🏛 History

Opened in 1966, Oakland Coliseum hosted decades of Athletics baseball, Raiders football, championship teams, legendary players, and some of the most unique fan culture in baseball.

🌆 Neighborhood

The surrounding area was more functional than scenic, with limited pregame and postgame options compared with top-ranked ballpark neighborhoods.

🔥 Fan Passion

A’s fans were the best part of the experience. Even when attendance was low, the loyal fans who showed up brought personality, drums, banners, chants, and real Oakland pride.

🚆 Accessibility

BART access was one of the strongest features, making it easier to reach the Coliseum without relying only on stadium parking.

🛍 Team Stores

The team store experience was more limited than many modern parks, but fans could still find Athletics hats, jerseys, collectibles, and classic green-and-gold gear.

🎉 Traditions

The drums, diehard fan sections, green-and-gold identity, “Let’s Go Oakland” chants, and memories of the Bash Brothers era gave the Coliseum character despite its flaws.

👀 Sightlines

Some seats offered decent views, but the multipurpose design and large foul territory made the baseball experience feel farther from the action than most MLB parks.

🌭 Concessions

Concessions were serviceable, but not a standout feature compared with newer stadiums or parks known for local food options.

⚾ Overall Feel

Oakland Coliseum had soul, loyal fans, and history, but the ballpark itself was outdated. It was still baseball, so it beats working, but it ranked last on the tour.
